Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve provably seen this popular style that’s popped up on celebrities and Insta-bloggers alike. (Yes, I’m looking at you Kylie).
It’s the trend of wearing fishnet tights with jeans, or under your jeans, I should say. It’s a simple way to add a vibe of edginess to your look, and since you’re only showing a sliver of fishnet, it’s a much easier look to pull off than, say, a mini skirt with fishnets channeling Pretty Woman.
Keep on reading for my top tips on wearing fishnets with jeans!
So, today I am going to lend a few tips that have helped me when styling my fishnets. I am also going to give you a few tips to incorporate a hint of fishnet, should you not be quite ready to go the full-leg.
Tips For Wearing Fishnets with Jeans
Fit
When wearing fishnets with jeans, I always recommend to start by wearing a more relaxed fit or boyfriend jean. Wearing jeans that are too tight will give the wrong impression. (Unless you are wearing them for a night out, in which case streetwalker-chic is always acceptable!)
But in general, what you’re looking for here is a combination of “rocker edge (fishnets) with an I don’t give a shit attitude (ripped jeans).” You want the look to be perfectly imperfect.
Another trick is to cuff the hems if the jeans will allow it, as that always lends to a more nonchalant vibe.
Destroyed
Ideally, the denim should be destroyed and have holes that are large enough for the fishnets to show through. There is nothing worse than wearing fishnet tights all day, coming home to a semi-permanent net imprint on your legs, and realizing that no one even saw them because the holes on your jeans weren’t big enough.
Go for the large rips, ladies!
Cropped
Another way to wear fishnets with jeans is to wear them with cropped hem jeans. This allows just a bit of the tights to show from mid-calf down to ankle. Tons of cropped jeans styles are popular this Spring (I’ve been loving these and these), so if you’re wary of trying the fishnet trend, this would be a great place to start.
Socks
Another simple way to add just a touch of fishnets with your jeans is to wear a fishnet sock. Instead of wearing a full leg of fishnets that, for the most part, will not be seen, you can opt for just an ankle sock’s worth of net. It’s easy to rock fishnet socks with even the most casual look, too (as seen here).
Tops
Another popular style we’ve been seeing lately is the crop top with fishnets trend. If you’d like to wear this look, make sure to pull the fishnets fully above the waistline of your jeans, up to the most flattering part (aka the smallest part) of your waist. You can then wear a crop top to show off the look.
This is a pretty daring style, but it can be made a bit softer by adding a long duster jacket or sweater to cover unwanted attention in certain areas.
Shoes
The best part about wearing fishnets with jeans is that you can pretty much wear any shoe you want! High heel pumps work with the relaxed boyfriend jean just as well as a more rugged combat boot. A more bohemian pointed ankle boot or even a slide loafer would also work well here.
In my look here (as well as this look), I paired my fishnets with a patent leather/lucite heel sock boot and a flat trendy sneaker. So, really, almost any shoe will work, depending on the look you’re going for.
So, I hope these tips helped you if you’re looking to rock a little fishnet with jeans for your next outfit. What other styling tips can you recommend? I love hearing feedback from my readers, so please let me know in the comments below!
