How to be Happy on a Rainy Day
It’s been a dreary Spring around here, I tell ya. I hope that the weather is making a quick turnaround by the end of this week, because I’m not sure how much more rain I can take!
So, today I am offering up a few tips to cheer yourself up on a rainy day. It’s amazing how much the weather can affect your mood. Like, it’s really hard to be in a bad mood on a day when it’s a perfect, sunny, 78° day, am I right?!
Hopefully, one or more of these tips will help you out when your mood is dreary…and help to turn that frown upside down!
Turn on the Lights
Ok, so maybe the sun hasn’t made an appearance in 24+ hours. But just because Mother Nature decided to live in the darkness doesn’t mean you want to, too! Turn on some lights inside your house, even if it’s the middle of the day. The added brightness will lift your mood, just as the sun would. Also, lighting some candles will create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Take a Warm Bath (or Shower)
I am a huge fan of baths, no matter the season, but I especially love a hot bath on a cold rainy day. I also find it easier to unwind at the end of a long day by having a relaxing soak. It also signifies to my brain, “This is the end of your day, you may now begin to relax before bed.” Next time you find yourself dragging and uninspired, try a hot bath to instantly warm up your mood.
Get Outside
Ok, this may sound counterproductive, but if there is a break in the rain, try and get outside! For some weird reason, being outside during a drizzly day makes it seem less drizzly. It’s almost like when you stay outside late during a warm summer night, and it starts to get dark, but you don’t even realize it’s dark until it’s like REALLY dark. It’s a similar thing here. You don’t really realize it’s wet outside until it REALLY starts to rain. My favorite place to go breathe some fresh air is the beach (duh), where I can watch the waves in the misty fog.
Pump Up the Jams
Another way to cheer yourself up when it’s raining is to put on some fun music. Because who doesn’t love a little impromptu dance party in the middle of the day?! Plus, the extra endorphins you get from dancing will lift your mood even more.
Have a Movie Day
There is nothing better than a guilt-free movie day to help cheer you up from a rainy day!
Work Out
All those endorphins bring me to my next point – working out! It doesn’t have to be an epic workout, but just something to get the blood pumping. Even a relaxing yoga video will probably work wonders to boost your endorphins (and your mood)!
Cuddle Up with Your Pets
Studies have proven that petting an animal can decrease stress and even lower blood pressure. So cuddle up with your furry friend and snuggle that bad mood away!

Thank you, Courtney! Yes, as much as we don’t always want to, sometimes a workout is necessary! 😉
