As most of you know by now, it was the biggest struggle finding a couch for our new place once we got out to LA. We both had to agree on a style, a color, a fabric, and a firmness. The good thing is that we knew we both wanted a chaise on one side, and we had an odd size space to work with, so that size constraint narrowed it down quite a bit.

BUT, we still must’ve sat on about 200 couches before finding the one.

Oh, yeah, that was the other requirement, we had to be able to see it in a store and do the “sit test” to make sure it was comfortable, so that meant no online purchases. The horror.

Anyway, I am still putting the finishing touches on our home decor, and as soon as it’s finished I promise I will do a virtual tour.

But for now, I am going to attempt to make your quest for a couch a bit easier by rounding up all of the places we tried (plus a few others!). I’m also choosing a few of my faves from each store for you to check out. Make sure to scroll through each slider below to see all my favorites.

Where to Buy Couches:

Wayfair

Ok, Wayfair has the biggest selection of couches EVER…and pretty much all furniture, really! If you can’t find it at Wayfair, it’s possible it doesn’t exist. They also offer free shipping & returns, so that’s a bonus as well. It was hard to narrow it down, but here are a few of my faves.

Macy’s

Macy’s wouldn’t have popped up at the top of my mind for modern furniture, but they have a surprisingly good selection! (My mom is the one who suggested we look there. Moms are always right!) Plus, they almost always have sales and coupon codes available so you can score an even better price. Another plus is that Macy’s furniture is pretty well made and will stand the test of time.

Cost Plus World Market

One of my favorite stores for boho chic, yet modern, decor and furnishings. I recently discovered this store after moving to LA, as we don’t have them on the East Coast…such a shame because now I’m obsessed with literally everything.

Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters has the most trendy, colorful, and boho chic furniture. I love their eclectic selection, and you can also score items on sale if you time your purchase just right!

Target

Target, as always, has a great selection of modern couches, and generally for a very affordable price. They also have a wide range of styles and sizes so there is sure to be something for everyone. I mean, it IS Target, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone!

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn features a range of styles, from classic to modern. Another plus is that they offer a very extensive selection of fabrics and textures. So if you’re looking for something specific, this is the spot to try.

Joybird

Joybird may be a lesser known furniture store, but it is still one that should not be missed! They specialize in the mid-century modern couches, and have a variety of colors if you’re looking for something unique.

Joss & Main

Joss & Main features a huge selection of couches at extremely affordable prices. Most are under $1000, and can you guess which one of my picks is only $239?!

West Elm

West Elm is a classic furniture store and their pieces are well built. The trade off is the price and they tend to be a bit higher priced than other stores.

Lulu & Georgia

Oh my, Lulu & Georgia, how do I love thee? The cutest, most classic chic pieces in all the right colors & fabrics. Think pink velvet tufted panels and feathery soft cushions. If you’re looking for glamorous elegance, this is the place to try!

On the other end of the pricing spectrum we have One Kings Lane. *Warning* Their prices are not for the faint of heart, so this shop is probably best if you’re not on a tight budget (or any budget really, ha). Additional List of Stores: Where to Buy Couches

Here are some more stores to check out if you’re looking for that perfect comfy couch!

Anthropologie – A top choice for gorgeous, unique couches, but for some reason I couldn’t link to my favorite picks!

Crate & Barrel – My Aunt just bought this couch  — in beautiful Cardinal Red color! Crate & Barrel has about a zillion color and fabric options if you’re looking for something specific.

Costco – Couches at Costco are a seasonal item, but I’ve done the “sit test” on a few and they don’t disappoint!

Blueprint Furniture – This is where we ended up buying our couch! They’re a local LA furniture company, but they do ship! They usually have great sales around holidays and 3-day weekends, so you might want to hold off til then.

Z Gallerie

Arhaus – Tons of styles are up to 40% off right now!

Homegoods/TJ Maxx – It’s hit or miss, but don’t forget to check these out…whatever you find, you’ll be guaranteed a great deal!

Living Spaces – One of their couches was third on our list, but we ended up going in a different direction.

Ikea – The best prices for modern furniture if you’re on a strict budget.
