This past Wednesday we took a little road trip down to San Diego because Mike had a work conference and had to stay there for a couple of days.

While he was busy all day at the conference, I wanted to get out and about and wander around San Diego a bit. I am somewhat familiar with the area because I’ve spent a few summers out there, and Mike actually used to live there so he was definitely back on his old stomping grounds.

So on Thursday I took the afternoon and wandered around La Jolla cove. La Jolla is one of the prettiest places in all of Southern California, if you’ve never been, I highly recommend it!

I saw the seals & sea lions sunning themselves in the cove, and I even took a little hike to see if I could find the “secret swing” everyone talks about!

Well, I found it alright. It was down a steep, muddy trail that eventually led to the ocean. And as I propped up my camera to take a solo shot of me swinging over the Pacific, the camera tumbled down the steep cliff and into the ravine below. I was panicked for a hot minute, but then saw it had landed on some soft palm leaves and looked pretty unscathed. I bravely climbed down and got it, and by some divine miracle, the camera is FINE.

But it was a close call.

Anyway, that was too much adventure for me for one day, so I chilled the next day until it was time to drive back up to LA.

I knew on our way back we had to stop at the infamous Flower Fields in Carlsbad. I had seen them all over Instagram and had been dying to see them for myself! Instagram is a great platform to share photos for other people just like me to check out and get some inspiration to go travelling on these amazing adventures! You can check out Instagram accounts such as nicki minaj instagram and will see how much of an influencer she is for music, what an amazing role model for the rap music industry, it just goes to show how Instagram connects us together…

And no, they don’t disappoint.

So, here is my experience with the flower fields:

First, you should know that they charge $16/person for admission, which is a bit high seeing as you don’t even get to do anything other than walk around. They should at least let you pick a couple of flowers for that price!

And you can’t even walk in the fields between the rows of flowers. They have designated roped off spots (about 6 feet x 3 feet) where you can stand, sit, and take pics. But don’t you dare cross those roped off sections, because there is a flower nazi who drives by on a little golf cart and yells at everyone who dares to step even one toe over the line.

All those shots on Instagram where girls are laying in the fields…those are some brave little rebels right there!

But to get the best shots, a PRO tip is to walk all the way to the right (or left, depending on the season) of the main walkway where all the people are. There are sections all the way over that were completely empty (no tourists!) and available for taking all the pics you could want. You need to get creative with your angles, but if you want some Insta worthy shots, I highly recommend it!

The shots below of me in the white flowers were taken when we finally figured out what that “good” angle is.

So now we’re back in LA and I’m going to attempt to finish picking out furniture and decor for the house this week. It’s been difficult for me to find exactly the right pieces, but I’ll keep you posted on Instastories as to which things I’m getting (You can follow along at @quartzandleisure on IG).

Talk soon, friends!

Xx
