Modern Fall Wreath - Floral Hoop Wreath

Today I wanted to share a little fall inspired DIY. And even if you don’t consider yourself “crafty” in any way, I assure you you’ll be able to recreate this wreath in no time.

While this wreath can certainly be used year round, I was inspired by the warm orange tones of the flowers and berries I used. I had originally chosen some brighter & lighter colored flowers, but I wanted it to reflect more Fall tones so I changed a few of my choices…and I think it works!

Keep reading for the simple step-by-step instructions on how to make this Modern Floral Hoop Wreath.

What You’ll Need:

Start by cutting about 20 strands of yarn for the bottom fringe. I cut them about 30″ long and did about 15 cream colored and 5-6 tan colored pieces of yarn. 30″ may seem long, but these will be looped around the hoop so the length will essentially be cut in half.

Take your first piece of yarn, fold it in half and place it underneath the macrame hoop. Then follow the pictures to pull the strands through the loop. I’m sure there is an official name for this type of knot, but my brain is failing me right now, so just leave me a comment if you’re having trouble and I will try to help.

Continue looping on all your strands of yarn at the bottom of the hoop, alternating between the cream and the tan. I did about 3-4 cream pieces, then one tan, then more cream colored. But feel free to adjust this to your liking.

Once all your yarn pieces are looped on, you can trim them to all be the same length, or leave them uneven. I prefer a jagged, undone look so I didn’t trim mine.

Next, start by gluing down the leaves, as these will be the foundation for the floral focal piece. I recommend laying everything out beforehand to see the placement of where you want the leaves to fall.

Next, take the berries and do the same steps, laying them on top of the leaves.

And to secure the hot glue, I always take some floral wire and wrap it around the entire section. This hot glue is great and all, but wrapping it will ensure nothing falls off when it’s not supposed to! And, if you want to avoid the wrapping step, you could check out adhesives like hanging glue that can wrap around the entire section.

I also used some hot glue to “place” the berry stems exactly where I wanted them to fall around the hoop. You don’t need a lot of glue here, just something to hold them on the shape of the hoop.

Next, pull your florals off of their stems. You may also need to cut the knobs off the back of the flowers in order for them to lay flat on the wreath.

Then, take your main flower (the largest one) and spread a generous amount of hot glue on both the back of the flower and the spot on the wreath where you want the flower to lay. Press it into the hoop until it is dry and secured.

Next, take your two ranunculus flowers and visually position their placement on the wreath before repeating the same hot glue steps as above.

Once you have all your flowers glued on, if they feel limp or like they aren’t sturdy enough to stand up on their own, flip the wreath over and place a few drops of glue beneath each layer of petals. This will add strength and sturdiness to the flowers and allow them to stand up better.

If you choose to hang this wreath on a hook, just add one more piece of yarn to the top of the hoop for hanging. Tie the yarn in a knot at the top to make a hanging loop.

And that’s it! Now, just stand back and admire your work!

This wreath can also be modified to incorporate any season, holiday, or home decor vibe. I may try another similar style for the upcoming holiday season. Would you guys be interested in that? Let me know in the comments below!
